This afternoon I took a leisurely stroll through Versailles, passing through the Hall of Mirrors and admiring the hangings in the Queen's Chamber...without even leaving my chair! Via the Google Art Project, you can now take a virtual tour of Versailles and other famous museums. You navigate using arrows to get a panoramic view of each room and can even zoom in close to examine the artwork on the walls. Not a bad way to spend a snowbound afternoon :)
{Thanks to Encyclopedia of the Exquisite for introducing me to this new way to armchair travel!}

Someone posted a link to this on Facebook recently, also, but I haven't had time to really take a look. But I did click on~~Versailles!!!
Have you been there, Ivy? If you haven't been there, I hope you can go someday! I was lucky enough to be able to go to England and Paris in 1987 and Versailles was one of my must-sees :~) It's amazing, of course!!!
I just finished watching another Masterpiece Theater series that I taped many years ago~~The Aristocrats. It takes place in England and Ireland in the mid to late 1700s and again, the costumes are exquisite!!!
Hi Elaine!
I never been to Versailles {or France} although I really want to someday--that's why I was excited to see this little virtual tour. Not the same thing of course, but still interesting all the same :) Lucky you to visit England and Paris! Where in England did you travel?
And thanks for the tip about the Aristocrats, I will have to add that one to the queue on Netflix as well {Ted will be thrilled that it's suddenly full of costume movies ;)}

Thanks for sharing this link, Ivy! Just went on virtual journey through Versailles as well - I have never been there - but it looks amazing,the amount of stunning details is just overwhelming!
I am off to Amsterdam now to visit the Van Gogh Museum :))
Geanina.
Hi Ivy!
I do hope you can go to France, and Europe in general someday! It's heaven!!! Could you write it off as a business expense for research purposes? :~)
I went to London first for three weeks with a UCLA Extension Program to take a Textile and Fashion class though the Royal College of Art! Unfortunately, the college was being renovated so our class was held at another school.
The class wasn't what I thought it would be, but it was fun anyway. I made some yardage on a knitting machine, then made a top and skirt which I then silk screened on! I have it somewhere and when I find it, I'll take photos!
After the course ended, I went to Paris~~sigh~~for 10 days~~~absolute bliss!!! Then I went back to England and traveled by train, up to Scotland and back to London. That's the Reader's Digest Condensed version!
Now I really have to find my photos and relive my trip!
I will let you know if I think of some other costume movies that you will like. You can tell Ted that it's my fault! :~)
Oh, and in case, I confused you, I've switched my art and craft blogs to Brioletta and PTS is now devoted to photography and Photoshop! I'm also going back to my idea of having two Flickr pages, along the same lines :~)

Hi Geanina--so glad you enjoyed the link too! I'll have to check out the Van Gogh museum next :)
Hi Elaine--Oh I wish that could be considered a business expense, haha! The class you took sounds really neat, and the outfit you made sounds beautiful--I'd love to see pictures when you have them. I've never made anything on a knitting machine before but they always looked interesting to try. That sounds like a really wonderful trip, so glad you got to explore a bit of Europe :)
Thanks for the update about the blogs too--I will have to check them both out!

I've just recently discovered googleart project myself and have wasted a good couple of hours quite happily there! I don't know if it's just my lack of technical ability, but I can't figure out how to add images from the project to my blog...how did you manage it? And I'm in love with your previous post...thank you so muc for introducing me to such a wonderful artist! The PRB and later Pre Raphaelites are my favorite artsits and it is fantastic to see someone reinterpreting them in such a wonderful way!
Cheers!

Hi there, Hope Ava :)
It took me awhile to figure out how to get an image from the Google Art Project onto my blog too--I finally discovered that I had to take a screen shot! I then cropped the image so that it didn't have the navigation menu around it. And I'm so glad you enjoyed the previous post about Malgorzata's work--it's lovely, isn't it? I'm a big fan of the PRB too--my last collection was inspired by their paintings :)

Ivy
Thank you so much Ivy! I now have a lot of screen shots to take....
:)
Ha! Too funny, this is where I come from originally! Thanks for the link, I am going to check what else is there to visit!:)
Catherine, I didn't realize you were a true Parisienne--how wonderful!
